Inclusion

Recognising the importance of a school culture in which every student has opportunities to learn—responding to each learner’s needs and potential, valuing diversity, and promoting equitable access to the curriculum—Maple Bear Estoril – Sigea School is committed to being an inclusive school. In accordance with Decree-Law No. 54/2018, the School provides a Learning Support Centre to help ensure every student can thrive.

This organisational resource brings together specialised staff and educational resources to identify the most effective ways of responding to individual differences. It adapts teaching and learning processes to each student's unique characteristics and needs, making full use of the available resources to ensure that every learner can succeed and participate fully in school life.

For students who face greater difficulties in accessing the curriculum, the Multidisciplinary Team, established for this purpose, is responsible for identifying the barriers to learning faced by each student and proposing strategies to overcome them, while strengthening their skills and abilities.

In addition to promoting the quality participation of all students across different learning contexts, with a view to their inclusion, the Learning Support Centre is also responsible, whenever necessary, for preparing an Individual Education Plan (IEP). This plan includes significant curricular adaptations, as well as the skills and learning outcomes to be developed by students, with a view to their future integration into the labour market.

The Centre also supports teachers in implementing learning support and inclusion measures for all students, particularly through ongoing professional development, the adaptation of teaching materials, and the adjustment of assessment methods and tools.
