Why a bilingual education?

At Maple Bear Estoril – Sigea School, children from Pre-School to Year 3 of Primary Education develop skills in Portuguese and English naturally and in an integrated way, through a pedagogical approach inspired by the best Canadian educational practices.

Bilingual learning happens progressively and meaningfully, respecting each child's developmental pace. In an environment of constant interaction, pupils perfect both languages through communication, exploration, play and everyday school experiences.

In the methodology of linguistic immersion, the child is exposed to English continuously and in a contextualised manner, participating in activities, projects, and daily routines without systematic recourse to translation. In this way, language learning happens naturally, similar to the process of acquiring one's mother tongue.

This approach favours not only the development of linguistic skills, but also autonomy, confidence, cognitive flexibility, creativity and the ability to adapt to different cultural and social contexts.

To ensure the quality and consistency of our educational project, the College participates annually in a quality assurance and monitoring programme conducted by Canadian pedagogical specialists. This process allows us to track the implementation of the Maple Bear methodology, support the ongoing training of educational teams, and ensure compliance with international quality standards and current pedagogical guidelines.
