Maple Bear Estoril – Sigea School follows a fundamentally humanistic philosophy, placing the student at the centre of the entire educational process.
Our students actively engage in a journey of discovery, learning and growing every step of the way. This growth is understood as the full development of their skills, attitudes, values, and knowledge. We believe this is only possible through a strong partnership between the School and families.
What Are the Key Goals We Aim to Achieve?
- To develop well-rounded individuals through a balanced and progressive education, preparing them to become active and responsible citizens;
- To educate with respect for differences, which complement us;
- To encourage the quality of being human, promoting self-confidence;
- To foster effort, responsibility, dedication and curiosity;
- To foster critical thinking, preparing students to thrive in a democratic society;
- To educate with rigor, quality and high standards, based on coherence and firmness, placing particular emphasis on the areas of Portuguese, Mathematics and English, and striving, whenever possible, to go beyond the learning objectives defined by the educational authorities.
How Do We Achieve These Goals?
- By choosing an experienced, cohesive and stable team;
- By believing in a differentiating, active, and student-centred pedagogy;
- By continually and carefully assessing the needs of our school community, with a strong focus on quality.
What kind of students do we wish to help grow?
- Free, independent, responsible, and aware of themselves and the world around them;
- Able to think critically and independently, creative, skilled in collaboration, and effective communicators;
- Respectful of others and accountable for their actions, building positive and harmonious relationships with classmates, teachers, and staff.
Curriculum Development Project
As a curriculum planning framework, the Curriculum Development Project aims to align the national educational guidelines and the core curriculum established by current legislation with the School’s Educational Project and the specific needs of the Maple Bear Estoril – Sigea School community. It therefore represents a genuine exercise in curriculum autonomy.
This document sets out the School’s curricular and pedagogical choices within the framework of the autonomy established by Decree-Law No. 55/2018 of 6 July, Decree-Law No. 152/2013 of 4 November, and Ordinance No. 59/2014 of 7 March.
In parallel, this guiding document establishes an annual theme to be explored across the entire school community. From Preschool through to Upper Secondary School, all classes engage with this theme through a range of learning activities and projects, while teachers, exercising their professional autonomy, implement the strategies they consider most effective in achieving this objective.
